Q.What products are being recalled?

Select 50 pound bags of Red Flannel Large Breed Adult Formula dry dog food with the best buy date of July 12, 2008 and select 5 pound bags of Krasdale Gravy dry dog food with the best buy date of July 16 and 17, 2008.

No other products are affected.

Q. Why are the products being recalled?

This voluntary recall has been issued because the FDA determined that Salmonella may be present in some 50 pound bags of Red Flannel Large Breed Adult Formula dry dog food sold in two stores in Pennsylvania and 5 pound bags of Krasdale Gravy dry dog food sold in various stores in  New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania.

Company is issuing this action out of an abundance of caution.

Q. Have the products already been removed from store shelves?

Retailers have been notified, so affected pet food products should be removed from store shelves.

Q. What should I do if I have recalled pet food in my home?

Pet owners should immediately stop feeding their pets any of the recalled pet food. If pet owners have any concerns about their pets’ health, they should contact their veterinarian immediately.

Pet owners should dispose of product in a safe manner (example, a securely covered trash receptacle) and return the empty bag to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Q. What types of safe pet food handling procedures should pet owners use when feeding their pets?

In an effort to prevent the transmission of Salmonella from pets to family members and care givers, the FDA recommends that everyone follow appropriate pet food handling guidelines when feeding their pets.
